AUTUMN 2026: March into Autumn đ
March into the change of season … or relax and meander along the Lachlan
Autumn in Forbes brings cooler mornings, golden afternoons, and a welcome change of pace. As the season unfolds, the town transforms with vibrant colours and crisp air, creating the perfect setting to pause and enjoy the simple pleasures of regional life.
A walk or bike ride around Lake Forbes is especially stunning at this time of year, with autumn foliage reflecting across the water. Comfortable temperatures make it ideal for outdoor activities, whether itâs a peaceful stroll, a picnic, or enjoying the scenery with family and friends.
Autumn is also a wonderful time to support Forbesâ local businesses. CafĂŠs, shops, and galleries offer warm hospitality and seasonal comforts, inviting locals and visitors alike to linger a little longer in town and discover something new.
With fewer crowds and beautiful scenery, the season is perfect for exploring Forbesâ rich history and the surrounding Central West region. Autumn encourages a slower rhythmâone where you can take your time, follow country roads, and experience the warmth and charm that make Forbes special yearâround.
Farwell to McFeeters
For many in Forbes, McFeeters Motor Museum was never just a place to look at cars â it was a place built on passion, pride and a lifetime of dedication. After 18 years, the museum has now closed, leaving behind countless memories for locals and visitors who walked through its doors.
Bill and Jan McFeeters created the museum as a home for Billâs lifelong love of vehicles. What began decades earlier as a personal interest grew into something much bigger â a carefully curated collection that told stories of craftsmanship, innovation and history. When the purposeâbuilt museum opened in 2007, it was clear this was more than a business; it was a labour of love designed to be shared.
Anyone who visited will remember the quiet sense of awe when stepping inside â the shine of polished chrome, the attention to detail, and the way each vehicle was presented with care. Many visitors were welcomed personally, often with stories behind the cars, where they came from, and why they mattered. For families, it was a place where generations could connect; grandparents reminiscing, parents learning, children wideâeyed and curious.
Over the years, McFeeters became a familiar recommendation: âHave you been to the car museum yet?â It was a reliable stop for travellers passing through Forbes, a drawcard that encouraged people to pause, explore the town, and support local cafĂŠs and shops. Its presence quietly but significantly contributed to Forbesâ identity as a welcoming and interesting place to visit.
The decision to close marks a major change, but also a natural turning point. With the family retiring and the building changing hands, the museumâs chapter has come to an end. While the vehicles may now be scattered far and wide, the impact of McFeeters remains firmly part of Forbesâ story â in conversations, photographs, and the memories of those who experienced it.
McFeeters Motor Museum will be remembered not just for what it displayed, but for the generosity of spirit behind it â a gift to the community built from a lifetime of passion
We will remember them…Â
Anzac Day in Forbes, NSW, is a deeply significant event, especially at our beautiful Victoria Park. The day begins with a Dawn Service where participants assemble at 5.15am in front of the Club Forbes and march to the Cenotaph in Victoria Park. The ceremony starts at 5.30am, creating a poignant atmosphere as the community gathers to Honour those who served.
Later in the morning, a mid-morning march takes place, starting at 10.30am, with various schools, community groups and ex-services personnel participating. The march proceeds to the cenotaph for a service that includes wreath-laying and concludes around 12pm.
The day is filled with activities that bring the community together to remember and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by Australian service men and women.
Lest we forget.
